Biography |
Wanda Lock (Canadian, b. 1969) was born in Oliver, BC, and grew up in Oyama. She began her artistic training at Okanagan University College in Kelowna, later attending Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, where she graduated in 1992. Since then, she has lived and worked in Lake Country, BC. Lock's artistic practice is based in painting and expands into drawing, collage, and installation. Her works often toy with themes of domesticity, nostalgia, and banality. She also has a curatorial practice and has been the curator of the Lake Country Art Gallery since 2015. Lock also served as guest curator for the Kelowna Art Gallery exhibition A Year from Now: Works from the Permanent Collection in 2021. Lock had a solo show of recent work at the Kelowna Art Gallery in 2008 entitled Stacks and Piles. She has also participated in group exhibitions at the gallery, including Personal Topographies in 2012 and Drawing from Life in 2016. In 2013, Lock was commissioned by the gallery to create a site-specific installation at Kelowna International Airport entitled Flying Machines and Poems for Strangers, and in 2022 Lock created a forty-foot-long four-panel painting titled Kate and Molly. In 2016, she collaborated with the artist Rena Warren on Escape Artists, a site-specific installation in the Kelowna Art Gallery's Rotary Courtyard as part of the Artist's Garden Project series. Her work is held in various public art collections, including those of the Penticton Art Gallery and Vernon Public Art Gallery. |
