Biography |
Vicky Marshall (British / Canadian, b. 1952) was born in Sheffield, England, and immigrated to Canada as a child in 1966. She studied at Emily Carr College of Art and Design, graduating in 1979. She rose to prominence in the early 1980s with her bold series of paintings depicting Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Her work was also featured in the influential 1985 exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery entitled The Young Romantics. Later Marshall turned to the BC Interior landscape as a subject for her large, painterly works on canvas. Marshall had a solo exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery in 1988. Her work has also been featured in several of the gallery's group exhibitions, including Stepping Stones: Works from the Permanent Collection (1995), Art Odyssey (2001), Oasis (2005), and Nexus: Histories and Communities (2007-08). |
