Biography |
Tony Scherman (Canadian,1950-2023) was born in Toronto, Ontario. He received a BFA from the Byam Shaw School of Art, in London, UK, in 1971, and an MFA from the Royal College of Art, also in London, in 1974. Scherman is known internationally and is represented in numerous public collections in Canada, the United States, and abroad. Scherman worked with traditional encaustic material, often on large scale and in series, on canvas and various paper supports. He had two solo exhibitions at the Kelowna Art Gallery: Pensées impensables (Unthinkable Thoughts) in 2004 (which travelled across provinces), and Tony Scherman: Works on Paper in 2012. He was represented in Toronto by Georgia Scherman Projects, in Vancouver by Paul Kyle Gallery and in New York City by Winston Wächter Fine Art. He died in Toronto in 2023. |
