Biography |
Shannon Oksanen (Canadian, b. 1967) was born in North Vancouver, BC. She studied art history at the University of British Columbia from 1987 to 1993. Oksanen is a self-taught artist, working in various media, including painting, video, photography, and sculpture. Her practice often used cinematic sources; however, since the early 2000s, her practice has focused on portraiture. She has often collaborated with the artist Rodney Graham on projects, including the Vancouver-based punk band Volumizer and the Main street coffeehouse Liberty. She also worked with the artist Myfanwy MacLeod on public art for the BC Women's and Children's Health Centres in Vancouver. Oksanen has exhibited her work in Vancouver, San Francisco, and London, England. She was included in a 2004 group exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery titled Break Away! |
