Biography |
Peter von Tiesenhausen (Canadian, b. 1959) was born in New Westminster, BC. He grew up on a ranch in northern Alberta. He currently lives and works in a rural setting near Demmitt, Alberta. He studied at the Alberta College of Art (now Alberta University of Arts) from 1979 to 1981. He began as a painter, then moved into land art and site-specific installations and performances, often using natural materials. Von Tiesenhausen had a solo exhibition entitled Lebensläufe at the Kelowna Art Gallery in 1998. He conducted a burning performance on Okanagan Lake on February 13, 1999. He was the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award. |
