Biography |
Kay Angliss (Canadian, 1923-2004) was born in Haney, BC. She studied at the Vancouver School of Art, graduating with honours in 1946. In 1958, she moved to Calgary, Alberta, where she continued her studies in 1963 at the University of Calgary and later at the Alberta College of Art. She studied with Deli Sacilotto, Shane Weare, Andre Stasik, and Carol Summers. She married artist George Angliss, whom she had met during her studies in 1945, and went on to have three daughters, also artists. Angliss taught children's art classes at the Calgary Allied Arts Centre from 1960 to 1975 and studio arts at the Alberta College of Art from 1965 to 1980. Upon retiring, she relocated to Penticton, BC, where she occasionally taught at the Okanagan Summer School of the Arts. She was an accomplished artist, working with various media, including fabric construction, printmaking, and watercolour studies of the human figure and the Okanagan orchard trees. In 1972, her solo exhibition travelled to thirteen Canadian public galleries. In 1987, Angliss was appointed as a lifetime member of the Alberta Society of Artists. She was the recipient of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Trust Fund in 1994. Her work belongs to private and public art collections, including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Alberta House in London, England, and the Confederation Centre Art Gallery, in Charlottetown, PEI. |
