Biography |
Alan Wood (Canadian, 1935-2017) was born in the town of Widnes, in Lancashire, England. He studied at the Liverpool College of Art in the 1950s. Wood was a sought-after educator. He taught at the prestigious Cardiff College of Art in Wales before immigrating to Canada in 1971. Wood began extensive teaching appointments at art schools, including Capilano College in North Vancouver and the University of Cincinnati. He taught at Okanagan College for the 1978/79 academic year. Wood was a painter, sculptor, and printmaker. He is best known for his monumental art installation titled Ranch (1983), which consisted of lumber structures wrapped in canvas and painted in bright colours. These structures span 320 acres of land in the foothills of the Rockies. Wood had a solo exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery in 1989. |
